A private voluntary initiative to build primary schools at low cost in developing countries.
100% of your contribution goes directly to building schools - no money is deducted for overhead, salaries or marketing.
Founded in 1994
Dr. Jon D. Raggett (1944-2015), Founding Director
Schools3 began with the commitment of one man—engineer Jon Raggett—to share his skills and good fortune in the service of helping raise the literacy rate in some of the world’s poorest communities.
Our first school was built in 1999 in Kankalena, Mali. Since then, we have built schools in Mali, Malawi, Senegal, Nicaragua, Honduras, Lesotho, and India.
Today, with the help of our caring and generous donors, we are building our 104th school.
Impact
Our partner for schools in Mali (buildOn) collected information to see what impact our collaborations have had over the past 20 plus years. Check out their Impact Report to catch up with the graduating class of our first school together in Kankalena and to learn how our efforts have empowered the village.
Your own school?
Well, not exactly. The schools we build belong to the communities in which they reside that help build, staff and maintain them. But you still can fund an entire school and take pride in the fact that you personally have made it possible for the village to expand opportunities for their students.

"When we were planning our wedding, we decided we didn’t want any traditional gifts. We both believe education is the most important factor in improving a child’s life, so we researched charities with that goal— and found Schools3."

A typical school has 3 classrooms, a latrine facility, and desks. It is made with concrete blocks, has a metal roof and roof structure, and is beautifully plastered and painted inside and out. It is a primary school for as many as 192 children by day, a community center and adult school by night.
